Welcome to the latest release of Covent Garden, our popular BigCommerce theme! In this blog post, we are thrilled to introduce you to the highly anticipated update version 2.9.0, packed with an array of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. This update aims to elevate the design, functionality, and user experience of your online store, ensuring that you have the tools and flexibility to create a truly remarkable e-commerce platform. Let's dive into the exciting additions, updates, and fixes that await you in this Covent Garden theme update.

Added Enhancements

The Covent Garden 2.9.0 theme update brings an assortment of valuable features that empower you to customize your store's appearance and optimize user interaction. We've introduced a phone icon next to the phone number in the header, providing visual balance alongside user navigation icons. Furthermore, you now have the option to display the phone number in both the header and footer, enabling customers to reach out more conveniently.

To enhance your website's layout, we've introduced a full-width web page template, allowing for greater customization possibilities. Additionally, the option to upload newsletter popup images via the image manager in the store control panel makes it easier to engage customers effectively.

The update also introduces a range of styling options, including heading text divider styles, offset and overlap options for storyboard content, and carousel content opacity controls. Furthermore, you can now adjust the roundness of buttons, inputs, and content containers, tailoring them to match your brand's aesthetic.

Boosting conversions and increasing customer engagement is a key focus in this update. We've added three new conversion boosters: "People Watching This Item," "Recent Sales Popup," and "Cart Countdown Timer." These features create urgency, generate social proof, and encourage customers to complete their purchases.

Moreover, the Covent Garden 2.9.0 theme update allows you to rearrange product sections on your homepage, giving you the freedom to highlight your best-selling products and promotions more effectively.

Updated Features

In addition to the new features, this update includes several enhancements to improve the overall performance and visual appeal of your store. Default info alert colors have been adjusted to align with the theme's styles, providing a consistent and cohesive user experience.

We've made significant improvements to the simple header, ensuring it functions seamlessly across various screen breakpoints. The currency dropdown now appears next to the user navigation, simplifying the currency selection process.

To reduce clutter, the phone number in the header is hidden at specific breakpoints, displaying a small link instead. Additionally, user navigation links have been updated to show icons by default, optimizing space utilization and creating a cleaner header layout.

We've addressed alignment issues in the mobile header, especially when using a store text logo. The newsletter in the simple footer now aligns perfectly with the body container, creating a visually cohesive design. Moreover, copyright text in both the simple and standard footers has been repositioned to the same row as the creditation, saving space and improving visual flow.

The spacing and layout in the simple and standard footers have been refined to create a more visually appealing and balanced appearance. Account navigation now changes to a dropdown on smaller screens, ensuring easy access to account-related features.

Additionally, pagination link alignment has been improved for enhanced user experience, allowing customers to navigate through your store's pages effortlessly. Text inputs in the theme editor now accommodate more characters, providing greater flexibility for customization.

Product cards have undergone scalability improvements, adapting well to different devices and screen sizes. To maintain visual consistency, product cards now have uniform heights, giving your store a sleek and professional look. Furthermore, various minor spacing and sizing adjustments have been made to enhance the overall aesthetic of the theme.

Under-the-hood Improvements

Alongside the notable enhancements, the Covent Garden 2.9.0 theme update addresses several bugs and issues, ensuring a smooth and seamless shopping experience for your customers.

We've resolved the issue with the header global region, ensuring it functions as expected, allowing you to provide a consistent and reliable user interface. The featured category link in the footer is now hidden as intended, removing any visual distractions.

Product images on Safari no longer appear distorted, providing accurate and visually appealing representations of your products. Additionally, the filter loading color no longer overlaps with the sticky header, offering an unobstructed view of your products.

Your store logo now appears crisp and clear, eliminating any blurriness and maintaining a professional appearance. Misaligned text on buttons has been rectified, creating a visually consistent interface.

The issue with the close mobile menu toggle not being visible on dark header backgrounds has been fixed, ensuring a seamless navigation experience across various themes. PayPal Credit banners now appear correctly in all regions, delivering accurate and reliable promotional messaging.

Lastly, we've addressed the functionality of the store's logo when the mobile menu is open, making it clickable for easy navigation and accessibility.

Removed Features

To streamline the theme and focus on essential features, the Covent Garden theme update 2.9.0 removes regional phrasing in phone number text, unnecessary blog image size options from the theme editor, and select box color options from the theme editor. These removals simplify the customization process and ensure a more intuitive user experience.

In addition to these new functionality updates, we've fixed plenty of display bugs to ensure a seamless and visually appealing experience for your customers. For a full list of all the bug fixes included in this update, please refer to the  changelog.
