BigCommerce does let you create promotions to give a percentage off at checkout, but it doesn’t automatically show those discounts on the product or category pages (PLPs or PDPs). The Problem
In BigCommerce, you can set a specific “Sale” price on a single product and display a “Sale” badge. However, if you need the entire catalog—or even one category—on sale, manually entering sale prices or managing bulk imports is tedious and prone to mistakes. The built-in promotions system does allow percentage discounts for multiple products or whole categories, but those discounts don’t show up visually on the storefront. Shoppers see the discount only at checkout, missing that extra push to click “Add to Cart.”

We used BigCommerce’s API to see if a particular promotion was active. By labeling categories and products, we could identify which items needed a discount in real time. -
Stencil Frontend Customization
Using BigCommerce’s Stencil framework, our team created a custom script that calculates the new discounted price whenever the promotion is live. It then displays a “Sale” badge and the reduced price for each eligible item, so shoppers can clearly see the bargain. -
Easy Maintenance
BC Softwear can now activate or deactivate a promotion in BigCommerce without manually editing dozens of products. The storefront automatically updates any time a promotion is live, saving time and simplifying store management.

By implementing a single, central promotion in BigCommerce—rather than manually editing individual product prices—BC SoftWear found it much simpler to put large groups of items on sale. Because the built-in promotions system now handles the discount logic, they no longer have to worry about tedious bulk imports or updates.
