One of our clients has always displayed their prices excluding VAT because most of their business is done B2B (Business to Business). Google Shopping’s policy regarding VAT in feeds is now: The prices of the items submitted in the data feed must be inclusive of any applicable taxes such as value-added tax … The prices submitted in the data feed must be shown on the landing page. So, our client asked us to enable display of the VAT inclusive price, and change the Price label we had modified to say “Price (ex VAT). When we changed this, inc VAT price became the most prominent (in red) and was displayed above the ex VAT price. This is OK for B2C (Business to Consumer i.e. to private individuals) but could potentially put them at a disadvantage if at a quick glance their prices seemed 20% more expensive! Mercante is our 4th responsive theme for BigCommerce, it is now available within the control panel theme store. Mercante is a responsive theme aimed at wine merchants and producers and suppliers of fine food and drink, as it concentrates purely on showing products off, without heavy text around the images. Product details appear once a visitor hovers over an image. Clean, uniform product photography shot on white backgrounds will naturally increase the sales potential of this theme. The product pages have also been set up with product imagery in mind, using two thirds of the page for displaying product photos. In addition, to help with conversion rates, we have included our AJAX Minicart module with this theme. Today’s quick lesson is based on a question I was asked in a recent comment – how do we add a summary of the customers order on the order confirmation page? As things stand, the confirmation page in BigCommerce simply displays a thank you message and if you have set up a “pay later” option, details on how to complete the order, plus some links to new/popular products. So how to add the order confirmation details?
There’s a hot topic at the moment on the Official BigCommerce Forums regarding hidden categories. Originally you could hide a category from being visible in the menu, but still link to it; ideal for landing pages or email promotions. This feature later disappeared, and now hidden categories are treated as disabled. Using a bit of jQuery, we can replicate the old feature by hiding menu links matching or containing specific keywords.
